What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan & How Will it Work?

Ensuring all Canadians Have Access to Dental Care

We’re participating in this new federal government program so everyone can have access to dental care services that will assist them in improving and maintaining their oral health.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Aims to Cover Services for Those Without Dental Benefits

The CDCP aims to provide affordable dental care services to all Canadian residents. This plan is designed for individuals and families who may not have access to dental insurance through their workplace or private carrier, or who struggle with the cost of dental care. By offering affordable dental services, promoting good oral health practices, and preventing oral diseases for low-income individuals or families, seniors, students and more, the CDCP can lead to improved oral health outcomes for all and lower the burden on the healthcare system.

Services Covered

Examples of services that could be covered (when recommended by our dentist) include:

  • Cleaning, scaling (and deep scaling) and fluoride treatment
  • X-rays and exams
  • Fillings
  • Root canal therapy
  • Partial and complete dentures
  • Tooth extractions
  • Crown repair
  • Minimal sedation
  • Select orthodontic treatment will become available in 2025

Before we proceed with treatment, we’ll get approval to ensure it is covered under the CDCP. Some services will require preauthorization which will begin in November 2024.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all of the eligibility requirements. This means that you:

  • Do not have access to dental insurance (this includes your or a family member’s employment benefits, pension benefits, or purchased coverage)

  • Have a family net income lower than $90,000

  • Are a Canadian resident

  • Have filed your tax return for the previous year

  • Are a child under 18 years of age

  • Are a senior 65 years & over

The CDCP will reimburse a percentage of the cost based on your family income and the established CDCP fees. This means that you may have to pay an additional charge where necessary. Again, we’ll discuss this with you and get approval for coverage before we proceed with any services.
