We Perform Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth are third molars that are located at the very back of our mouths; two at the top and two at the bottom. They’re our last set up teeth to erupt, typically between the ages of 17 and 25. Unfortunately, most people experience problems when they start to erupt, causing improper bites, overcrowding, discomfort, and other issues. Depending on the tooth positioning, the wisdom teeth are treated or extracted usually all at once, although in some cases, people may not even develop all four!

Why Tooth Extractions Are Necessary

Having teeth removed is necessary for a few different reasons, especially if it's causing issues and negatively affecting your oral health. Here are some common reasons why our dentists will suggest patients have a tooth, or multiple, removed:

  • Infection

If you're experiencing pain, notice pus pockets, have inflamed/tender gums, or physically notice a dark spot on your tooth, it's time to have it removed. This may also call for a root canal. We'll be able to determine the best course of action once we view x-rays.

  • Tooth Is Damaged

If your tooth has been hit and cracked, or it's cracked due to infection, it should be taken care of right away. If left untreated, bacteria can get into the crack and make it worse. Infection can also spread to surrounding teeth or even your bloodstream fairly quickly.

  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth

An impacted wisdom tooth means that it's stuck under the gums or has only partially been able to breakthrough. This can be very uncomfortable, lead to swelling, cavities, and more. It's best to have your wisdom teeth removed as soon as possible to avoid any problems.

  • Overcrowding

Sometimes our jaws are too small to accommodate all of our teeth, therefore, overcrowding becomes an issue. Overcrowded teeth can cause problems with bite and chew, cavities, headaches, swollen gums, and more. Sometimes it's also necessary to remove them before orthodontic treatment ensues so teeth can properly shift into place.

We'll Make You Proud of Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry Solutions

Following tooth extraction, and depending on each case, patients will receive a tooth replacement so they don’t go long with missing teeth as this can cause further issues with eating, speech, facial structure, shifting, and jawbone loss. This is why our Orangeville dental care team offers cosmetic dentistry solutions so your smile can remain confident and beautiful. Typically, we’ll replace pulled teeth with dental implants, bridges, or crowns if patients qualify.
